Trees have been on earth for hundreds of millions of years and always seem to find a way to adapt and thrive in their environments. In the face of tragedy, they often stand strong, becoming symbols of resilience.

Once a tree falls, the wood is harvested for lumber or firewood, and the stump is left to decay. It may take several years for regrowth.

According to Evolution Tree Surgery, a company in the United Kingdom with a passion for trees, the time for a tree to regrow from a stump varies widely.

While some may show sprouts within months, others take years, and full regrowth to a mature tree can take anywhere from 10 to 20+ years, if it happens at all.

However, in 1967, a bizarre incident happened in Koforidua in the Eastern Region when a tree that was uprooted during a heavy rainstorm miraculously regrew from its stump.

Residents thought it was the end of its life cycle, but miraculously, the tree grew back to life in a span of two years.

This incident was recounted on TikTok by veteran broadcaster and historian, Amankwaa Ampofo.

He said residents were left in a state of shock when the mystery tree “resurrected”.

“The tree was located near the Koforidua Police Depot. During a heavy rainstorm in the area, it was uprooted.

Residents used the fallen tree for firewood. Two years later, they woke up to see the tree in its exact position, a development that shocked the residents,” he noted.

The story was captured in the Daily Graphic with the headline, “The Mystery Tree That Resurrected”.
