The rich cultural heritage of Ghana was once again on full display at the climax of the 25th anniversary of the installation of Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa State, also known as Okyeman.

The Royal Grand Durbar, held at Kyebi on Saturday, October 12, 2024, showcased the vibrant culture of the people of Okyeman, as well as that of the various tribes that graced the occasion. Almost every tribal group in Ghana was represented to celebrate with the people of the Akyem Abuakwa State.

Notable figures, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, government officials, and Members of Parliament (MPs), were in attendance to honor the event.

Here are highlights from the durbar:

The Grand Arrival of the Okyenhene and the Okyeman Golden Stool:

One of the most striking moments was the arrival of Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin and the Okyeman Golden Stool, also known as the Ofori Panin Stool.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin’s entourage was preceded by a figure resembling a tiger, symbolizing the strength of the Okyen monarch. This was followed by a long line of well-built men wielding machetes and guns.

The Okyenhene, carried on a palanquin, danced with symbols signifying his status as the overlord of the land.

Ga Mantse’s Arrival:

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, also graced the occasion, arriving in a grand style. The king led a long entourage of his kinsmen, showcasing the beautiful culture of the Ga people.

Nii Tsuru II was seen waving at the attendees before proceeding to exchange pleasantries with Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin.

Arrival of President Akufo-Addo:

President Akufo-Addo, a proud son of the Akyem state, also attended the Silver Jubilee celebration of his overlord. Visuals shared by the state broadcaster, GBC, captured the arrival of the president’s convoy.

Upon alighting from his vehicle, Akufo-Addo was seen greeting several dignitaries at the durbar.
