Tensions mount at Ghana Museums and Monuments Board bungalows over demolition threat

Tensions are reportedly high at the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) bungalows on Kuku Hill in Osu, where a private developer has initiated moves to demolish the historic residence.

A post shared on X by Accra-based Citi FM indicated that an excavator brought to the site early Friday morning triggered a standoff with staff and their families, who have vowed to resist the demolition to protect their homes.

In a video that accompanied the post, an excavator was seen demolishing a building while two men, assumed to be police officers, looked on.

The post read: “Tensions are high at the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board bungalows at Osu’s Kuku Hill, where a private developer has brought in an excavator to begin demolition.
