Afrobeats singer Davido has filed a lawsuit against Kenya’s Mediamax’s K24 TV for publishing a story of him being arrested in Uganda.
The DMW boss along with his legal counsel, sent a 48-hour ultimatum to the TV network, demanding a clear apology, acknowledgement of the defamatory remarks, and sufficient compensation for his legal expenses.
Davido served Kenya’s K24 TV with a Fool’s Day piece titled “Davido detained at JKIA after Sh18 million cocaine haul found in his private jet,” along with a pre-suit letter stating as such.
The singer chastised the TV network in a letter given on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, by Conrad Law Advocates, threatening legal action if his demands were not met.
Part of the letter reads: “Your statements are false and affect our client’s professional reputation by falsely stating that Davido was arrested for drug-related offences”.
The company asked Mediamax’s K24 TV to cease airing falsehoods about Davido, issue an apology, acknowledge that it was wrong to defame the musician and pay back the singer’s legal fees and costs.
The announcement was sent out hours after Davido defended himself as a law-abiding individual in a social media post in response to the cocaine accusations.
