Police Arrest 41 Suspects in Lapaz-Chantan Intelligence-Led Operation

The Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 41 suspects during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected criminal and narcotics-related activities at Lapaz and Chantan in Accra.

The operation took place on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at approximately 12:00 noon, with officers conducting searches in the two areas as part of efforts to identify and address suspected criminal activities.

The 41 suspects comprise 35 males and six females. According to information from the police, searches conducted on the suspects and within the operational areas led to the retrieval of quantities of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances.

Following the operation, all 41 suspects were taken into police custody and are assisting investigators with inquiries into the suspected narcotics-related activities.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the source and ownership of the recovered substances, as well as their intended use. Police are also expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the discoveries to determine whether any of the suspects can be linked to offences under the law.

The Ghana Police Service has indicated that appropriate legal action will be taken against any suspect found culpable after the investigations are completed.

The operation forms part of law enforcement efforts to tackle suspected criminal activities and strengthen public safety in communities across the country. Intelligence-led exercises allow police officers to focus on locations and activities identified as requiring further investigation.

The recovery of the suspected substances is expected to form part of the evidence being examined by investigators as they work to establish the facts of the case.

However, the arrest of the suspects does not establish guilt, and the allegations against each individual will have to be assessed through the appropriate legal process.

Further updates are expected as investigations progress and the police determine the next steps in the case.
