Kasoa Accident Victims’ Family Petitions IGP Over Alleged Police Inaction as Nurse Needs GH¢80,000 for Surgery

A grieving family at Kasoa in the Central Region has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for intervention over what it describes as a lack of progress in investigations into a fatal road accident that claimed two lives and left a young nursing graduate critically injured.
The family is also seeking financial support for the surviving victim, Fatia Wichi, who reportedly requires GH¢80,000 for surgery on her legs and hand following the accident.
According to a report by Onua Online, the crash occurred at the Kasoa-Ofaakor Junction at about 4:30 a.m. on September 30, 2026. The family alleges that a private Hyundai 4×4 vehicle struck a motorcycle carrying three people, including two women and a male rider.
Eric Atitso, an uncle of the deceased, said he received a call about the incident later that morning and rushed to the scene. He subsequently visited the Kasoa-Ofaakor Police Station, where an officer reportedly confirmed that two people had died and another woman had survived but was in critical condition.
Atitso said he later identified the deceased woman as his relative, Happy Wichi, and also identified the motorcycle rider, who was not a member of his family. Fatia Wichi, Happy’s daughter, survived the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The family has questioned the handling of the case, claiming that it has not received clear updates about the investigation or the driver allegedly involved in the accident.
Atitso reportedly expressed concern that the driver, identified in the family’s account as Samuel Darkora, appeared to have been allowed to leave rather than being detained for further investigation. He also alleged that officers gave differing explanations when the family sought clarification about the case.
These claims represent the family’s account of events. The full circumstances of the crash and the police response remain matters for the relevant authorities to establish.
The family further alleged that the vehicle involved belonged to the driver’s father, whom it described as a military officer. It has appealed to the police leadership to ensure that the accident is investigated fairly and that any person found responsible is dealt with according to the law.
Meanwhile, Fatia Wichi remains in need of medical care. She reportedly completed her nursing training at Sunyani Nurses and Midwifery College in 2023 and was awaiting posting before the accident.
The family says doctors have advised that she needs surgery on both legs and one hand, with the estimated cost put at GH¢80,000. Her condition has left relatives struggling to meet medical expenses after using their available resources to support her treatment.
Fatia has also appealed to members of the public and individuals in positions to assist to help raise funds for the required surgery.
The family’s appeal has drawn attention to the financial and emotional difficulties faced by victims of serious road accidents, particularly when urgent medical procedures are needed and relatives are unable to afford the costs.
Following a stakeholder meeting at the Central East Regional Police Headquarters in Kasoa on October 19, 2026, the regional command reportedly directed an officer handling the case to visit the hospital and obtain Fatia’s statement.
The family is hoping for a thorough investigation, clear communication from the police and assistance that will enable the injured nurse to receive the treatment she needs.
