The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to two separate road incidents in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The incidents, which occurred at Fise near Amasaman and McCarthy Hill, involved a VIP Yutong bus and a MAN diesel trailer respectively. According to the GNFS, no casualties were recorded in either incident.
At Fise, personnel from the Amasaman Fire Station were dispatched to the scene after a VIP Yutong bus collided with a concrete barricade.
The impact resulted in a diesel leak from the vehicle and caused partial damage to some parts of the bus. The affected areas included the bumper, side glass and side door.
Fire personnel responded to the situation by managing the diesel leak and securing the area to prevent the incident from creating additional hazards for motorists and other road users.
Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were recorded in connection with the collision.
The exact circumstances that led to the bus crashing into the concrete barricade have not yet been established. Authorities have therefore commenced investigations to determine the cause of the incident.
In a separate incident later in the day, personnel from the Weija Fire Station responded to a fire involving a MAN diesel trailer at McCarthy Hill.
The fire was already burning when the fire crew arrived at the scene. Firefighters immediately began efforts to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the vehicle or nearby areas.
According to the GNFS, the crew successfully brought the fire under control at 8:13 a.m. and completely extinguished it at 9:01 a.m.
The fire, however, caused extensive damage to the head section of the trailer. The trailer section itself also suffered partial damage.
Despite the extent of the damage to the vehicle, no casualties were recorded in the incident.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations currently underway to establish what may have triggered the blaze.
The two incidents highlight the importance of rapid emergency response in dealing with road crashes, vehicle fires and other hazards that can pose risks to motorists and the general public.
The GNFS continues to play a critical role in responding to emergencies across the country, including road crashes, fires and situations involving hazardous materials. Fire crews are trained to secure incident scenes and minimise risks while investigations are conducted.
In the case of the VIP bus, the prompt intervention of the Amasaman Fire Station team helped address the diesel leak and secure the area following the collision. At McCarthy Hill, the Weija crew’s response prevented the trailer fire from continuing to burn after arriving at the scene.
The GNFS has confirmed that investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Further details may emerge once authorities establish the causes of the collision and trailer fire.
