Ghana’s independence day to be celebrated at the City of Brampton in Ontario

Mayor Patrick Brown, on behalf of Brampton City Council, proclaimed March 6, 2020, as Ghana Independence Day in the City of Brampton.

This proclamation was made on February 26, 2020, at Council meeting.

Representatives of the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) were invited to attend a Pre-Council Proclamation Reception hosted by Mayor Brown and Members of City Council at 9:00 am in the Council Lounge, 4th Floor City Hall adjacent to Council Chambers.

At the function was also the Consul General of Ghana in Toronto, Hon. Thomas Seshie.

After a short period of refreshment and interaction with the Mayor and Members of Council, the function began at 9:30 am with some orders of business, followed by the proclamations under the announcements section.

The Mayor read each proclamation and one representative from the GCAO was invited to respond with any other details regarding the event or cause, for a maximum of 2-minutes.

Prior to the start of the official council meeting, the Consul General was presented with the framed proclamation.

Henceforth, the flag of Ghana will be raised at the Brampton City Hall on March 6 every year to honour Ghana’s Independence Day.

Brampton is a Canadian city in Ontario’s Greater Toronto (GTA) with a population of about 700,000. It is now home to many Ghanaians living in the GTA.
