Gyakie wows audience at OkayAfrica Culture Cafe in Ghana

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Gyakie has captivated music lovers and members of the creative industry with her appearance at the second edition of OkayAfrica’s Culture Cafe in Accra, where she shared insights into her musical journey, creative process and experiences in the entertainment industry.

The event, held on September 26, 2026, at Jambo Spaces in Accra, brought together music enthusiasts, journalists, creatives and other stakeholders for an evening dedicated to celebrating African culture through music, storytelling and conversations.

Gyakie, one of Ghana’s recognised contemporary music talents, was the featured artiste for the event, which provided an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the person behind some of her popular songs. The programme was moderated by Ghanaian host and creative Olele Salvador.

During the session, the singer reflected on her career and the experiences that have contributed to her growth in the music industry. She also discussed her approach to creating music and the inspirations behind her work, giving the audience a closer look at the ideas and emotions that influence her sound.

The discussion allowed Gyakie to connect with her audience beyond her music releases and performances. Fans and media representatives had the opportunity to engage her directly, asking questions about her experiences, artistic development and outlook on her career.

The interaction created an atmosphere for open conversations between the singer and attendees, with the programme highlighting the importance of understanding the stories, challenges and creative decisions that shape an artiste’s journey.

Gyakie has earned recognition for her distinctive musical style, which combines contemporary Ghanaian sounds with elements of Afrobeats and soulful melodies. Her songs, many of which explore love, relationships and personal experiences, have helped her establish a presence in Ghana’s music scene and attract listeners beyond the country.

Her appearance at the Culture Cafe further highlighted the role of intimate creative gatherings in strengthening the relationship between musicians and their audiences. Unlike conventional music performances, the programme offered participants an opportunity to hear directly from an artiste about the thoughts and experiences behind her work.

The event also featured a performance by Ghanaian singer Kaesa, who added a live music component to the evening. An after-party followed the main programme, allowing guests to socialise, network and celebrate the creative community in a relaxed setting.

The second edition of OkayAfrica’s Culture Cafe continued the platform’s efforts to create spaces where African artistes can share their stories, discuss their creative processes and engage with audiences in meaningful ways.

The initiative explores different aspects of African culture, including music, fashion, film and other forms of artistic expression. By bringing together established and emerging talents, the series seeks to encourage conversations about the people, ideas and experiences influencing the continent’s creative industries.

The Ghana edition followed the inaugural event, which featured award-winning Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy. His participation helped establish the platform as a setting for conversations about musical journeys, artistic development and the experiences of African performers.

With Gyakie taking centre stage at the second edition, the programme continued its focus on showcasing Ghanaian talent and creating opportunities for audiences to engage with musicians outside traditional performance settings.

The event also underscored the value of platforms that combine entertainment with storytelling, allowing artistes to share personal perspectives while encouraging dialogue within the creative community.

Gyakie’s participation added to the growing range of cultural activities providing Ghanaian musicians with opportunities to connect with fans, exchange ideas and contribute to discussions about the evolution of African music.

Through conversations, performances and networking, OkayAfrica’s Culture Cafe continues to provide a platform for celebrating African creativity and highlighting the individuals shaping the continent’s cultural identity.
