A suspected motorcycle thief has been stabbed to death at Okornya-Nkurakan near Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The suspect, whose name was only given as Prince, is said to have carried out his operation with four other friends who escaped narrowly when some residents raised an alarm.

Luck, however, eluded him when he was caught and stabbed with a kitchen knife right through his chest upon which he bled to death.

His lifeless body was found on Wednesday morning by the roadside.

But according to preliminary investigations, the deceased, together with his accomplices are believed to be motorcycle mechanics at Koforidua Magazine.

Although the police in Koforidua are yet to brief the media on the incident, some officers from the Koforidua Central Police station, visited the scene to convey the body to the Koforidua Regional Hospital for autopsy.

Investigations have thus commenced into the incident.

The practice of what has become known as mob justice remains common in Ghana, with some citizens often attacking and in most cases killing suspected thieves without recourse to the law.

Although this has in some cases resulted in the killing of innocent people, the growing mistrust for the police service, is often used as an excuse to commit the illegality.
