South African players not eager to travel abroad like Ghanaians – Maxwell Konadu

Former Black Leopards head coach Maxwell Konadu has highlighted a key difference between Ghanaian and South African footballers.
According to Konadu, Ghanaian players have a stronger mentality and a greater desire to succeed abroad compared to their South African counterparts.
“Ghanaian players are always eager to travel to Europe,” Konadu said.
“A South African player grows up having almost everything a European player does. So, the hunger and drive to move abroad aren’t as intense.”
This difference in mindset, Konadu believes, gives Ghanaian players an edge in terms of mental toughness.
Konadu also noted that South African coaches are more unpredictable in their tactical approach compared to those in Ghana.
“In South Africa, each team has its identity, and you never know what to expect next,” he said. “In Ghana, you can often predict a coach’s tactics before a game.”
With experience in both leagues, Konadu’s insights provide a fascinating perspective on the contrasting football cultures of Ghana and South Africa. His comments highlight the unique strengths and approaches of each country’s football industry.
