SHS student allegedly shot in the eye likely to require multiple surgeries

The Medical Director at Agarwal Eye Hospital in Accra, Dr Asiwome Kwesi, has disclosed that Suzzy Pinaman, a second-year student of Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, who was allegedly shot in the eye by a classmate, is likely to require multiple surgeries.
Addressing the press on Monday, May 5, 2025, he stated that the teenager’s condition remains critical following the gunshot injury.
“It’s likely to involve multiple surgeries. The outcome is still very guarded. What that means is the result is uncertain because we are not able to see the back of the eye. And if we cannot see the back of the eye, we can only assume what might be there,” he remarked.
The teenager, who was critically injured on April 4, 2025, during a school break, is seen in a viral video being assisted into a hospital.
Suzzy was hit in the forehead when her classmate, Bernard Amoabeng, allegedly fired a gun during an argument over its functionality.
The bullet fragments lodged in her eye have left her unable to see, sleep, or properly close her eye.
She has since been unable to return to school, and her family has been struggling to finance her treatment.
In a heartbreaking video, Suzzy made a public appeal to businessman Ibrahim Mahama and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, saying, “Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Ibrahim Mahama, I am pleading with you to hear my cry and come to my aid. I have no one.”
Following the appeal, Ibrahim Mahama, through his aide Rafik Mahama, pledged to cover all medical expenses, both locally and abroad if necessary.
