Shatta Wale Takes Swipe at EOCO, FBI Over Lamborghini Case at ShattaFest

Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale has taken aim at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), criticising what he describes as selective justice in the handling of financial crime cases in Ghana.

The musician made the remarks during ShattaFest 2026 at the Accra Sports Stadium, where he addressed the controversy surrounding the seizure of his Lamborghini Urus and his subsequent arrest in connection with an investigation involving the luxury vehicle.

Shatta Wale questioned why young people suspected of engaging in fraud are arrested while individuals accused of misappropriating public funds, including some government officials, do not appear to face similar treatment.

His comments brought renewed attention to the dispute between the musician and EOCO, which seized his Lamborghini in 2025 as part of an investigation linked to a request from US authorities.

The case centres on a 2019 Lamborghini Urus reportedly linked to Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, who was convicted in the United States in a fraud-related case. The vehicle was seized from Shatta Wale’s residence in Accra during an operation involving EOCO and information provided by US authorities.

According to reports at the time, the investigation was connected to alleged criminal proceeds, prompting authorities to examine the ownership and history of the luxury car. The FBI and the US Department of Justice were involved in the wider case concerning Amuah.

The seizure generated considerable public discussion, particularly because of Shatta Wale’s prominence in Ghana’s entertainment industry and the value of the vehicle involved.

The musician subsequently expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the matter. He was invited for questioning in August 2025 and was later released on bail as the investigation continued.

EOCO maintained that its actions were lawful and connected to the investigation into the vehicle’s alleged links to criminal activity. The agency’s position differed from the musician’s public criticism of the process.

At ShattaFest, Shatta Wale used the controversy to raise broader concerns about accountability and the treatment of people suspected of financial crimes. His remarks suggested that enforcement agencies should apply the law consistently, regardless of a person’s social status or political connections.

The comments have reignited debate about the work of anti-corruption and law-enforcement institutions, as well as the public’s expectations regarding investigations involving alleged financial wrongdoing.

However, allegations of wrongdoing must be distinguished from proven offences, and any comparison between individual cases depends on the available evidence and the circumstances of each investigation.

The Lamborghini case remains a prominent episode in Shatta Wale’s public dealings with law-enforcement authorities. His latest remarks have once again placed the musician, EOCO and the FBI at the centre of a discussion about fairness, transparency and accountability in the fight against financial crime.
