Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale had a tense moment with his DJ during his ShattaFest concert in Ho after an apparent change in the music disrupted his performance.
The incident occurred on October 3, 2026, at the Youth Resource Centre in the Volta Regional capital, where Shatta Wale headlined the MoMoFest X ShattaFest event.
Videos circulating online show the musician confronting his DJ, Alinko, during his performance. Shatta Wale appeared displeased after the music changed and questioned the DJ over the decision.
In the footage, the artiste is heard warning the DJ, saying, “You think we are playing here. I will slap you.”
Shatta Wale’s head of security, known as Abonko, was also seen on stage during the confrontation and appeared to gesture towards the DJ. However, the circumstances leading to the exchange have not been fully explained publicly.
Despite the brief confrontation, the incident did not bring the concert to an end. Shatta Wale continued with his performance as the event attracted a large crowd to the Resource Centre.
The concert formed part of activities surrounding the climax of the Asogli Te Za festival. The event, which combined entertainment, music and cultural celebrations, drew patrons from Ho and other parts of the country.
Other performers at the event included Volta-based musician Chief One as well as dance groups DGL Academy and DWP Academy.
The incident attracted attention partly because of the wider message Shatta Wale delivered during the same concert. Earlier in the evening, the musician spoke about unity among Ghanaian artistes and expressed his support for fellow dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.
He also performed Stonebwoy’s popular song “Putuu” during the concert, telling the audience that he had no problem showing love and support for his colleague.
The exchange with his DJ has since generated discussion among entertainment followers, particularly about the relationship between artistes and DJs during live performances.
The DJs Union of Ghana subsequently called for professionalism and mutual respect between artistes and DJs following the incident. Although the union did not mention Shatta Wale or DJ Alinko by name, its statement came shortly after footage of the confrontation circulated online.
The union described DJs and musicians as partners in the creative industry and encouraged both sides to communicate clearly before performances, including through soundchecks and rehearsals.
It also urged artistes and DJs to address disagreements through calm and respectful dialogue, stressing that teamwork is essential to successful live performances.
Neither Shatta Wale nor DJ Alinko has publicly provided a detailed explanation of the exchange at the time of reporting.
