Asokore Mampong to adopt bio digester usage under NBU project

 

Officials implementing No Business as Usual (NBU) Project will soon be rolling out a sanitation related initiative that is the installation of Bio-digester toilet facilities within a number of households at Asokore Mampong Municpality in Ashanti region.

As a way of bringing into fruition the foregoing intervention which is a constituent of their Social Businesses, implementors of the European Union funded Project as part of their execution plans have settled on entering into partnership with Das Biogas and Construction Limited; one of the fastest growing waste management companies in Ghana founded by an inspiring team of young thinkers.

The latter per the content of the partnership will be constructing Bio-digeter lavatories upon requests made by potential beneficiaries and that the installation of the facility will be done at a flexible cost and under a conducive payment modules.

This intervention according to Mr. Daniel Okity Boamah; NBU Project Manager is in line with Ghana’s environmental sanitation policy and aims at salvaging the municipality from the state of non-existence of toilet facilities in most households which is currently on a high ascendancy plus issues related to indiscriminate disposal of solid and liquid wastes.

He stressed during a meeting with CSOs, assembly members and staff of Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly that the move will help shape all efforts in dealing with the overwhelming challenges of poor sanitation in the area.

The meeting was a follow up on an earlier discussion on the initiative in question.It offered a platform for executives of Das Biogas and Construction Limited to explain to CSOs and Assembly members the mode of operation of the facility and roles expected of stakeholders in making it a success.

According to executives of Das Biogas and Construction Limited, the facility has a recycling and energy conversion of waste function which if adopted in its usage on a large scale will save residents and the assembly 80 percent on the cost uncured out of waste disposal.

Chief Executive Officer for Das Biogas and Construction Limited Mr. Enoch Kofi Boadu in his presentation during the meeting explained that the easy-to-install facility can last for 50 years, has no stench, has little or no maintenance and that the bio-gas factor can be used to supplement cooking and electricity needs.
