Sarkodie hosts show on Dubai desert

According to KJ Spio, Creative Director of CEEK, the virtual concert was inspired by the visuals of Sarkodie’s smash hit song, ‘Illuminati’.

He comments: “The inspiration for the virtual concert came from the Sarkodie music video ‘Illuminati’, which he shot in the desert a few years back. So that was the original inspiration for it and that’s why we even started the virtual concert with that song. It is also to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘Rapperholic’, which was the second album from Sarkodie. I think that album has had a major impact on Sarkodie as far as his live performances are concerned.”

Sarkodie took to the desert under beaming sunlight, opening with ‘Illuminati’, leading into ‘Rollies and Cigars’, he continued his charged performances, right through to finishing with ‘Adonai’ which is taken off his Sarkology album.

According to KJ Spio, putting together the virtual concert came with a few challenges and plenty of highlights. He said: “Some of the challenges that we had was mainly finding the right crew in such a short period of time and getting the logistics and things like dancers in and out of the desert. But all that came through together and it was so much fun.”

He added that the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Rapperholic concert will continue through Twitter Spaces. “The main objective is to get the fans to speak and interact with Sarkodie. We will also touch on certain things that most people wouldn’t know, such as the process of making the records, the nuances and all that that goes into it, to give people a good insight of how everything is done. We just want to talk about the music, the process and celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘Rapperholic’ with Sark Nation, his fans, the ‘Day Ones’,” he explained.
