Gov’t to meet with relatives of Ghanaians in Ukraine on Tuesday

The meeting, which is to take place on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Accra international conference center, is to discuss the prevailing issues in Ukraine.

“In view of the prevailing precarious security situation in Ukraine, which has necessitated the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals, among others, from the country to safety, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, is cordially inviting all parents, guardians, or relatives of Ghanaian nationals in Ukraine to a meeting,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Since last week when Russia launched an attack on Ukraine in what has attracted global attention, Ghana, like many other countries has been involved in frantic efforts to evacuate her citizens in Ukraine.

Relatives of persons including students living in Ukraine have also been anxious about the situation.

The government has so far ensured that some of the affected persons in Ukraine have been moved by land to neighbouring countries such as Hungary and Romania, and has promised that more evacuations will take place.

The planned meeting is part of efforts to address the situation of Ghanaians in that country.
