Ghana’s leader has said the visit of Prince Charles to Ghana demonstrates the importance the United Kingdom attaches to its relations with the West African country.

Mr Akufo-Addo received the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall at the Jubilee House on Friday, 2 November 2018.

The Royal couple are in Ghana for a five-day state visit.

“It’s a big honour for us to receive you in Ghana”, Mr Akufo-Addo told the royal couple, adding: “Your coming here shows that you attach a great deal of importance to your relations with Ghana”.

“So, we are very happy to have you here. I am sure these five days that you are going to be here will be a memorable time for both of you”, Mr Akufo-Addo noted.

The Ghanaian president added: “We know the relations between our two countries go back centuries. Some of them were happy, some of them not so happy. But we are in the happier period now. So many of our values are influenced by British traditions and institutional arrangements and a lot of the people who are living in your place are doing well; they are well treated. It’s a relationship that we value”.

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla’s visit to Accra, comes on the back of their visit to The Gambia.

From Ghana, Prince Charles and the Duchess are billed to head for Nigeria for a similar visit.

The last time the Prince of Wales visited Ghana was in 1977.
