Police raid popular Koforidua brothel

The Koforidua district police Saturday raided Bula Spot, a popular brothel in the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua.

Police say 10 persons – six males and five females – who were allegedly soliciting or offering sex, were arrested during the raid at the Spot.

The 61-year-owner of the facility, Anthony Ekar, was also arrested in the swoop.

Eastern regional police PRO, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said the district commander, Chief Superintendent Aduhene Binneh led a team of police officers and community protection personnel to the scene and apprehended the suspects.

The police team, according to the PRO, was able to arrest Gideon Syivor Mendah, 42; Michael Adjei, 40; William Danquah, 24; Ekpo Torbe, 23; Kwaku Ayogame, 30 and Kwame Musah, 24.

The rest are Mary Wondalo, 39; Rachel Adofo, 26; Constance Abiaw, 20; Joyce Monday, 23; a Nigerian national and Paulina Ayisi, 20, who according to the police were “soliciting or importuning for certain immoral purpose.”

DSP Tetteh said keeping a brothel is contrary to section 277 of the criminal offences Act 1960, Act 29.

Meanwhile, the police patrol team has also arrested four persons who are believed to be part of a wee smoking gang at Betom, a suburb of Koforidua.

Suspects Yaw Boateng, 21; Clodia Sdu Bimpong, 27; Mohammed Ishaiwu, 30 and Aaron Bempong, 20 were arrested at their hideout.

DSP Tetteh said a search was conducted on them but nothing incriminating was found.

They have been cautioned and detained.
