The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a series of alleged robbery incidents in Zebilla, Garu and Binduri in the Upper East Region.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate, the newly established Black Cobra Unit and the Zebilla Community Watchdogs.
The suspects have been identified as Issaka Iddrisu, 20; Ali Tamimu, 21; Akugre Amobila, 26; Banabas Apiiga, 41; Abdul-Rashid Adamu, 38; Apiiga Alebena, 21; and Bilal Adabodee, 31.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are allegedly connected to a wider network involved in robbery activities within the affected communities.
The development came after two alleged robbery victims reported their cases to the police and identified two of the suspects as members of a three-man group accused of robbing them of two Yamaha scooter motorbikes.
The motorcycles were reportedly valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000 respectively.
Police said the victims told investigators that they were threatened after the alleged robbery and warned against reporting the matter.
The two identified suspects subsequently allegedly admitted their involvement in the robbery during interrogation, according to the police.
As part of investigations, police conducted searches at the residences of three of the suspects — Abdul-Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena and Bilal Adabodee.
The searches resulted in the recovery of two unregistered motorbikes and GH¢29,550 in cash. Police said they suspect the money may be connected to the alleged criminal activities under investigation.
The recovered items have reportedly been retained as part of the ongoing investigation.
The seven suspects have since been remanded into police custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court.
They are expected to reappear before the court on September 23, 2026, as investigations continue.
Police have also indicated that efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals allegedly connected to the wider network.
The arrests form part of efforts by the Upper East Regional Police Command to respond to reported robbery incidents in communities including Zebilla, Garu and Binduri.
Residents in the affected areas have continued to rely on collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community-based groups to provide information that can assist investigations into suspected criminal activities.
The latest arrests are expected to provide investigators with additional information as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the reported robberies and determine whether other suspects may be involved.
The seven individuals remain suspects at this stage, and allegations against them will be subject to the ongoing legal process.
