Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa constituency K.T Hammond says parliamentarians ‘will not sit under trees’, as the debate over the construction of a proposed parliamentary chamber rumbles on.
Speaking on the floor of parliament earlier today, K.T Hammond defended the idea to construct a 450-seater edifice at the cost of $200,000,000, arguing that the current edifice had outlived its usefulness and was no longer fit for purpose. He concluded by boldly declaring that ‘Parliamentarians will not sit under trees’.
The MP made the comments in his submission in parliament, on a seminal day that also Ernesto Yeboah, convener for the Economic Fighters League, arrested.
It all started shortly after the majority leader had read the business statement. After that, Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tong constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa asked a question about when the Majority Leader will be briefing the house about plans to build a new parliamentary complex.
Once that question was asked, MP’s made contributions and MP for Adansi Asokwa, K.T Hammond ended his submission by saying that parliament would not sit under trees. It was right after he had said that, that Ernesto Yeboah started shouting #DropThatChamber.
He was quickly removed by some security personnel from the public gallery.
