Parliament to criminalized pitch invading in Ghana

Parliament of Ghana is considering enacting laws with regards to pitch invasion in order to help ensure orderliness and sanity at various match centres in Ghana.

Speaking on the recent invasion of the pitch by a fan at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium during Ghana’s match against South Africa in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers in an interview with Angel TV’s Esther Abankwa, vice Chairman of the Youth, Culture, and Sports committee of Parliament Kojo Asemanyi noted that there is the need to have an improved security at the various stadia not only during international matches, but in the domestic league centres as well.

“Look,we would have to make laws on pitch invasion, just as the UK has done, there should also be serious deployment of security personnel during matches, if possible, the military, so it gets to the minds of the people that they just can’t do anything at the stadia,” he said

The Black Stars 2021 AFCON qualifying match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa was temporarily halted in the 74th minute of the match, when a man who was later identified as Awal Suleman invaded the pitch and outrun some security officials which later caused lot of stir on social media.

The law is set to curb all forms of actions that do not enhance the growth of the game, and to improve security.
