The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has held a one-day sensitisation workshop on examination malpractices and its consequences for final year junior and senior high students in Amansie West District.

About 600 Junior High candidates and 530 students from Mansoman and Manso Adubia Senior High Schools, who have registered to sit for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), attended the workshop.

The workshop was aimed at briefing the candidates on examination malpractices and the sanctions that exist for such perpetrators.

Awareness was created on the need to reject various forms of malpractices such as impersonation, sending foreign materials into examination halls, using mobile phones during examination and sending purported leaked question papers into examination halls among others.

Mr Kwabena Owusu, the District Director of Education, said it was part of efforts to prepare the candidates to brace themselves for their pending examinations.

He urged them to continue to learn hard and desist from any attempt to cheat during the examinations.

Mr Owusu said teachers were prepared to assist them to cover all areas and that they should not hesitate to seek the help of their teachers in areas where they found difficulties.

He commended WAEC for coming to the aid of the candidates in the District and urged them to continue to help reduce the incidence of examination malpractices in the country.

Mr Michael Antwi Manu, Headmaster of Mansoman Senior High School, said they were no shortcuts to success in the examination.

They should, therefore, work hard and seek the support of their teachers in their efforts, he said.
