‘Our Father, Dr Bawumia, forgive us our sins’ – Kumasi Market women chant

A group of market women asking Dr Bawumia for forgiveness

A group of market women at the Adum Market in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, which was engulfed by fire last week, have rendered an unqualified apology to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

It is unclear what they were apologizing for, but it is believed that they may not have voted for the NPP during the December 7 elections.

The traders, who appeared to regret their actions upon seeing the former vice president visit the market after the fire incident, could not hold back their emotions and repeatedly chanted, “Our father, Dr Bawumia, forgive us our sins.”

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has extended support to traders affected by the recent devastating fire, donating GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to aid in rebuilding their businesses.

The fire, which broke out on Friday, March 21, ravaged several shops and stalls in the bustling business district, destroying goods worth millions of Ghana cedis.

During his visit to the scene on Tuesday, March 25, Dr Bawumia expressed his sympathies to the affected traders and called on Ghanaians and private businesses to assist in their recovery.

“I am donating GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to the victims, and I urge private individuals to also support the traders in getting their livelihoods back,” he stated.
