Otumfuo sends delegation to Ya Na funeral

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II sent a high-powered delegation to grace the final funeral rites of the late Dagbon Overlord, Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV.

Nana Baffour Asabere Kugyawoaso Ababio III led the Asanteman delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Regent of Dagbon, Bolin-lana Mahamadu Abdulai at the Gbewa Palace on Thursday, 27 December 2018.

The Asante chiefs displayed cultural dance of the Akan tradition at the forecourt of the old Gbewa Palace in commemoration of the funeral.

The Abudu royal family on Thursday performed the ‘Beni Wohibu’ as part of the final cultural activities to climax the royal funeral of the late Ya Na.

The Bolin-lana, together with other Dagbon chiefs including the Regent of Tolon, Rtd Major Sulemana Abubakari, performed an integral part of the final funeral rites.

The Bolin lana in his traditional regalia rode on a horse around the sacred house (Katin duu) trice to signify the ritual performance of his father’s funeral.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia led a government delegation to observe the last cultural ritual performed by the Abudu royal family. The ritual involved filing round the sacred house and firing of muskets amidst dancing.

Thousands of Dagbon natives and sympathisers flooded the Yendi Municipality to participate in the funeral.
