One arrested for breaking into regional minister’s private residence

Officials of the Takoradi Habour Police station in the Western Region have arrested 21-year-old Emmanuel Kumi who broke into the beach-road private residence of the Western Regional Minister, Kobina Okyere Darko this dawn [Saturday, May 18, 2019].

The Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Olivia Adiku who confirmed the incident to Citi News said the case is currently under investigation.

Citi News‘ Western Regional Correspondent, Akwasi Agyei Annim reports that the Minister heard noise from a young girl in the house near the kitchen and called the police to arrest the suspect.

“This dawn around 5 am, there was information that the Minister’s niece who was outside washing, saw that a naked person had scaled into the compound. She ran back into the house without locking the door. So the suspect, went into the kitchen took some biscuits and drinks, went into another room picked up a jeans and wore it.”

“He also picked up the children’s bicycle and a framed picture of the Minister and the National Chief Imam. So, when the niece made some noise, the Minister heard it and called the Police who came in and arrested the suspect.”, the Police PRO said.

The police who had to call for reinforcement arrested the suspect believed to be on drugs after struggling with them and biting one in the process.

“For this, we will call it unlawful entry and stealing. He is currently with the Harbour Police. This is the private residence of the minister, not his official residence. For now, we do not know the reason why the suspect went there; because of how naked he was- we need to really investigate what his intent was”, DSP Anku stated.

A confidant to Minister Okyere Darko told Citi News the Minister is fine and is currently meeting the Vice President Bawumia who is on a Ramadan tour of the Western Region.
