President Akufo-Addo says he has no favourite in the impending flagbearership race of the New Patriotic Party.

According to him, his job is to hold the balance and provide a level playing field for all individuals seeking to contest.

“My duty is to hold the balance, to make sure that there is a level playing field for all inside our party. The decision has to be the decision of the party, my thing is that whoever the party elects as the flagbearer for 2024, that person is who I will support and God willing if I have strength campaign for the person to become President,” the President noted on Pure FM in Kumasi Monday.

He reiterated his claim that the NPP is best for the Ghanaian economy.

“I always say, our situation in Ghana, if the NPP government had continued after President Kufour, maybe Ghana would have realised the desired changes but we didn’t have the opportunity to continue”.

So far, Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia are the frontrunners in the flagbearer race of the NPP. Pundits say others including maverick lawmaker Ken Agyapong, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, Railway minister Joe Ghartery, Agric Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto are all gearing up to contest the slot.

The party is likely to elect its flagbearer in 2023.
