NPA outlines policies to curb gas explosions a year after Atomic explosion
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has outlined policies and actions aimed at curbing issues of gas and fuel station explosions in the future.
One such policy is the Cylinder Recirculation Model and Chief Executive Officer of the authority, Hassan Tumpuli says the model, when implemented, will ensure house-to-house LPG delivery for users.
His revelation comes a year after the Atomic Junction gas explosion.
The gas explosion incident which killed about 7 people and left about 130 people injured, left properties worth millions destroyed with about 25 cars damaged beyond recognition and repairs.
Prior to the accident, the scene was a site for commercial activities where commercial vehicles and traders operated.
Meanwhile, a year after the explosion, survivors are still looking forward to compensations but most importantly, policies and frameworks that have been adopted to prevent future incidents that will regulate the establishment of gas and fuel stations in and around residential areas.
But Mr Tumpuli explained that measures are being put in place to cater for the needs of the victims of the explosion.
He is also optimistic that things will fall in place to prevent such future occurrences.
