The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has said there is no plastic or foam fish in the market as alleged in a video circulating on social media.

The regulator said in a statement released on Friday, 14 December 2018, that its investigations revealed that the fish seen in the video were not plastic or foam as suspected.

The FDA has, however, asked the general public to increase their surveillance in assisting the Authority deal with any such cases.

“The attention of the FDA has been drawn to a video circulating on social media purporting the presence of plastic fish or foam fish on the market.

“The FDA has sampled some fish on the market which were alleged to be plastic but investigations have proved otherwise. The FDA would like to encourage the public to continue to report any fish they suspect to be plastic fish or not genuine fish.”

It added: “The FDA wishes to encourage the general public to provide information on any activities that are likely to endanger public health safety with respect to the FDA’s mandate through any of the following contacts; hotline, 0299802932, 0299802933, Short Code: 4015 on all networks expect Glo.”
