‘Nebuchadnezzar’ trends after Akufo-Addo unveiled a statue of himself at Effia-Nkwanta

The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, recently erected at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi, has sparked widespread debate among Ghanaians on social media.

The president unveiled the statue during his tour of the Western Region, and Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah explained that it was created to honour the President for various initiatives he has undertaken.

However, critics argue that the statue should have been installed only after the hospital’s renovation work and the completion of other delayed projects.

This development has caused “Nebuchadnezzar” to trend on X (formerly Twitter), as critics draw parallels between Akufo-Addo’s statue and that of the biblical King Nebuchadnezzar, who famously erected a statue of himself and commanded his people to worship it.
