Two members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region have filed for their nomination to contest in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
As at close of filing of nominations on Friday July, 19 2019, only two persons filed for their nomination to contest at the constituency party office at Mataheko a suburb of Accra.
The two were Alhaji Abdul- Latif Dan and Alhaji Halidu Haruna.
This reporter in a telephone interview with the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Kplorm Kofi Dordunu who is out of the country commended the two members of the party for showing interest to recapture the Ablekuma Central seat for the party.
The Chairman was optimistic that the NDC would recapture the Ablekuma Central seat in 2020.
Ablekuma Central he said has been the seat for the NDC but due to some reasons it has become a swung seat adding that it was the seat for the NDC and they lost it to the NPP in 2016 and that the NDC will recapture it in 2020.
“In 2016 we did some mistakes but we have corrected and we are going to win the seat back”, he said.
He therefore, advised the supporters of the aspirants to comport themselves well ahead of the primaries.
Vetting is slated for July 24th to 25th this year as petition will follow immediately on July 26 to 27 2019, and appeals on July 29th to 31st 2019.
He wished the two aspirants well and prayed that they pass through the vetting processes successfully.
He cautioned all Constituency Executives to remain neutral and abide by the guidelines of the party’s electoral process.
The NDC in 2016 lost the Ablekuma Central seat to the NPP.
Mr. Ebenezer Gilbert Nii Narh Nartey won the seat for the NPP with 46,884 representing 52.92 per cent as against the NDC’s Alhaji Halidu Haruna who polled 40,686 representing 45.98 per cent.
