NDC Demo: Police commence investigation into incident that led to injury to police officer

The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into an incident during the just-ended National Democratic Congress (NDC) ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration that resulted in injury to a police officer in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

The injured officer is currently receiving medical attention.

The incident occurred after the demonstrators who were protesting against discrepancies in the Voters Register, contrary to the arrangements, attempted to push their way into the premises of the Electoral Commission and pelted the police with stones, leaving the officer injured.

The police managed to bring the situation under control, and calm was restored.

According to a statement by the police, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reached out to the injured officer via a telephone call and wished him well.

The Ghana Police Service thanked the public for their cooperation during the demonstrations that took place in all 16 of the country’s regional capitals.

“We wish to thank all stakeholders, including the organizers, the demonstrators, the Electoral Commission, the media, and the commuting public, for their cooperation throughout the exercise.

“The Inspector-General of Police and the entire leadership of the Police Service would like to express their profound gratitude to all police officers across the country for their continuous patriotic dedication and commitment to security, law, and order in our beloved country,” the statement added.
