Mother and 2-year-old son dead after ‘slipping into’ gutter at Ashaiman

A 27-year-old woman and her two-year-old son drowned in a gutter at Ashaiman following Monday night’s heavy downpour.

The Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, ACP Peter Gyimah narrating the incident to the press said, Patience Humali was returning from church with her three children aged- 7, 4 and 2 when the bizarre incident occurred around Mandela Park at Ashaiman Katetoo.

According to him, the mother slipped into the gutter with her 2-year-old child, Benet Humali at her back.

ACP Gyimah noted that the other two children were saved by some good Samaritans while the lifeless body of Benet was also found about five hundred meters away from the scene some minutes after the unfortunate incident.

The officer further stated that the police began to search for the mother’s body until it was found Tuesday afternoon around Klagon at the time of filing this report.

Both bodies have been conveyed to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.

ACP Gyimah took the opportunity to advise drivers, pedestrians, and traders to find a safe place to stay during rains to avoid such unfortunate incidents.
