Mentally challenged woman gives birth in the forest

A mentally challenged woman believed to be in her early 30s has succesfully given birth to a bouncing baby girl at the Aboabo forest in the Tamale metropolis.

According to an eyewitness, the woman was found in labour by a young man who was attending to natures call in the forest which harbours many of such mentally challenged persons.

The witness raised an alarm and that alerted some women around who quickly mobilised clothing to cover the naked woman in labour and assisted her to give birth.

The assemblyman for the area upon hearing the news took the new mother to his house where she was bathed and before she was sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical care.

Confirming the incident to Bole based Nkiligi FM, the head of Department for Medical Social Work at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Alhaji Braimah Saaka said both the child and mother are doing well and receiving treatment at the hospital.
