March 13 rainstorm destroys properties, NOBISCO girls’ dormitory in Tamale

A rainstorm that struck on the evening of Wednesday, March 13, 2025, has reportedly affected several areas across the country, leaving many residents homeless.

Among the hardest-hit victims are female students of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) in Tamale, Northern Region, whose dormitory was destroyed by the storm.

According to a report by The Ghanaian Times, the storm tore off the roof of the girls’ dormitory, rendering the building uninhabitable.

Additionally, the storm caused significant damage to personal belongings worth thousands of cedis, including books, uniforms, bags, footwear, and mattresses.

Speaking with the newspaper, the headmaster of the school, Alhassan Issah Dokurugu, stated that following the incident, one of the boys’ dormitories has been converted into a temporary shelter for the affected girls while a permanent solution is sought.

Dokurugu explained that the girls’ dormitory was completely destroyed by the heavy storm, necessitating the temporary arrangement.

“If the situation does not improve, the likelihood of asking the students to go home is very high,” he stated.

He further noted that the school was already facing infrastructural challenges, and the damage to the dormitory has exacerbated the situation.

He appealed to benevolent individuals and organisations to support the school in restoring the dormitory to a usable state.
