Mandela’s sacrifice, devotion to freedom unmatched – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has eulogised Nelson Mandela, the first black President of South Africa.

Today, 18 July 2018 is designated as Mandela Day in South Africa in honour of the political leader regarded as the Father of the South African nation.

In a Facebook post to mark 100 years since the birth of Mr Mandela, who died in 2013 aged 95, Mr Akufo-Addo said the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary “gave us an example of sacrifice, of dedication to principle, and of devotion to freedom that is without equal in the annals of Africa’s modern history”.

 
As part of events to mark the celebration, former US President Barack Obama, also the first black President of US participated in the Nelson Mandela lecture.

He delivered a speech to the world’s media and an audience of some 15,000 people in South Africa’s main city, Johannesburg.
