Man, 30, Drowns In Galamsey Pit

A 30-year-old suspected illegal miner has drowned in an abandoned galamsey pit at Akyem Akanteng in West Akyem Municipality in the Eastern Region

The deceased, Fulam Tasira, a mechanic reportedly drown while escaping arrest after a false alarm that the military task force clamping down on illegal miners was trooping to the bush where he was.

His body was retrieved and deposited at the Asamankese Government Hospital morgue by Osenase Police but subsequently released to the family for burial according to the Islamic religion.

Meanwhile, five suspected illegal miners have been arrested by forest guards from Kade District in the Atewa Forest Reserve.

The suspects were found lurking in the forest when officials of the Forestry Commission from Accra visited the forest for inspection.
