Four alleged armed militants arrested in Ketu South

Residents of Ketu South have arrested four alleged armed militants in the Volta Region. The suspects were apprehended on the night of Friday, December 6, 2024, less than 24 hours before the general election.

A video circulating on social media platform X shows some irate residents physically assaulting an individual believed to be one of the suspects while others surround a white pickup truck thought to have transported the group to the area.

The purpose of the suspects’ presence and their alleged deployment to the area remain unclear at this time.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the deployment of personnel to designated locations across the country to support the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in ensuring a peaceful 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary election.

In a statement, GAF reassured the public that the movement of military personnel is part of its collaborative efforts with the police to maintain law and order during the electoral process. It also urged citizens not to be alarmed by the presence of the military in their communities.

The statement emphasized that “no military personnel will be stationed at any polling station.” Instead, their role will be limited to standby support, with the primary responsibility for election security resting with the Police Service. GAF clarified that military deployment will only occur upon a request from the police to address specific situations requiring reinforcement.

“This collaborative approach ensures that the elections proceed smoothly and peacefully while maintaining law and order,” the statement concluded.
