Kurt Okraku Launches 2025 KGL U17 Colts Championship in Prampram

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, has officially launched the 2025 KGL U17 Colts Championship at the GFA Technical Centre in Prampram. The ceremony, held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, brought together young footballers, coaches, regional representatives, and stakeholders to mark the start of the much-anticipated youth competition.

Platform for Young Talent

Speaking at the launch, Kurt Okraku emphasized the importance of the Colts Championship as a foundation for developing Ghana’s future football stars. He described the tournament as more than just a competition, noting that it provides a platform for young players across the regions to showcase their skills, gain experience, and build pathways into the national teams.

“This is where Ghana’s next generation of footballers will emerge,” Okraku said. “Our mission is to nurture talent from the grassroots and give them the opportunities to grow into stars who can represent Ghana on the international stage.”

Goals of the Championship

The KGL U17 Colts Championship is designed to:

  • Offer competitive match experience for young footballers from across Ghana.

  • Serve as a scouting ground for coaches and national team selectors.

  • Encourage regional football associations to strengthen their youth programs.

  • Promote community engagement in grassroots football.

By creating a structured and competitive platform, the GFA hopes to identify standout players who can progress into the Black Starlets and eventually graduate into higher levels of national representation.

Significance for Ghana Football

The launch comes at a time when Ghana continues to prioritize youth football as a cornerstone for national success. Ghana has a proud history of producing world-class footballers through grassroots competitions, and the KGL Colts initiative is expected to continue that tradition.

The tournament also strengthens the link between local communities and national football development, ensuring that talented youngsters from every corner of the country are given opportunities regardless of background.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 edition will feature regional champions competing for national glory, with scouts and coaches closely monitoring performances. Outstanding players are expected to earn opportunities for further training, scholarships, and possible selection into Ghana’s national youth sides.

As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on Prampram and other venues to see which emerging stars will shine brightest and carry forward Ghana’s proud legacy in youth football.
