NDC MP breaks silence on alleged share in $350 million cocaine seizure

Blay Nyameke Armah, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, has denied allegations linking him to a $350 million cocaine seizure.

The MP, a lawyer by profession has strongly refuted claims suggesting he has any involvement in drug trafficking activities.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on April 8, 2025, he stated that he has never seen cocaine in his life and is shocked by what he describes as false and defamatory accusations.

“For me, Lawyer Blay Armah, all the allegations being peddled against me, I have no hand in them. The next thing is that they will hear from my lawyers,” he said.

He added, “It’s on Twitter and all-over social media. But as I’m saying, in my entire life, I have never seen cocaine before. And the amount of money they’re mentioning, if I had that kind of money, would I still be here? I would have bought an island somewhere.”

Armah’s response follows claims made by the Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who alleged that a Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is connected to the recent drug seizure valued at approximately $350 million of which people accused him of being the said individual.

Speaking during an interview on Channel One Newsroom, Rev Fordjour stated, “It was an NDC parliamentary candidate who owns that $150 million portion of the cocaine. So, when we bring these exposés, it is expected that the NDC will feel frustrated and come at me personally. But I am not perturbed.”

The controversy stems from a massive drug bust by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in March 2025, where 3,319.66 kilogrammes (3.3 tonnes) of substances suspected to be cocaine were intercepted. The estimated street value of the haul is $350 million.

The drugs were cleverly concealed in sacks and bags, hidden within heaps of sand on a tipper truck in an apparent attempt to evade detection.

Armah has vowed to pursue legal action against those spreading what he calls baseless and damaging rumors.
