Members of Parliament on Thursday voted to reprimand the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong who was found in contempt of Parliament.

This was after he apologized in the House for some contemptuous comments he made against the House.

Ken Agyapong was found guilty of contempt for describing Parliament as useless and cheap.

He, however, insisted that he never used such words attributed to him to describe Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament then led the House via voice vote to consider the options recommended in the Privileges Committee report.

Parliament on Thursday suspended sitting temporarily over a deadlock over which sanctions to hand out to Kennedy Agyapong.

The committee report recommended a reprimand or suspension of Kennedy Agyapong for the rest of the session of Parliament.

The deadlock was because the Majority MPs were divided over whether the report of the committee should be approved before they decide on what sanctions for their colleague.

When they returned, Kennedy Agyapong was given the opportunity to apologize to atone for his offence and was subsequently rebuked by the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye.

Meanwhile, Muntaka Mubarak who dragged Kennedy Agyapong before the Privileges Committee says he is disappointed with the decision of the House. He was seeking a stiffer punishment for his colleague.
