John Obi Mikel stuns England and Chelsea legend John Terry, urged to consider Saudi Arabia
Former England, Aston Villa, and Chelsea captain John Terry has been left stunned by John Obi Mikel’s performance during the charity game between Chelsea Legends and Bayern Munich Legends played at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Mikel was in the starting lineup as part of a midfield trident alongside Michael Essien and Jody Morris as Chelsea Legends cruised to a dominant 4-0 win.
Chelsea’s goalscorers were Essien, Terry, Gary Cahill, and Tiago Mendes as the retired professionals turned back the hands of time in a match held in honour of former Chelsea player and manager Gianluca Vialli, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in January, aged 58.
Mikel was, however, among the players who left a big impression on Terry.
The former Super Eagles captain was smart with his movement and crisp with his passes, showing little signs that he has been retired for three years.
And after the match, Terry sent a message to Mikel on Instagram, confirming to the Jos-born midfielder that the Nigerian still has what it takes to remain active.
The Englishman also suggested to Mikel to consider coming out of retirement and moving to Saudi Arabia.
Mikel drew the curtain on his illustrious career in 2021 after playing for Lyn Oslo, Chelsea, Tianjin TEDA, Middlesbrough, Trabzonspor, and Stoke City.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner is one of Nigeria’s most decorated players at club level, having won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup four times, the League Cup twice, and the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea.
