Corruption Watch: RTI is panacea for corruption – Media Coalition

The Media Coalition for the passage of the Right to Information Bill (RTI) has explained the passage of the bill is important for the fight against corruption in the country.

According to the group, the passage of the bill will enhance governance in the country by giving Ghanaians unlimited access to information regarding development and other issues in the country.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show, the Chairman for the Coalition, Seth Aboloso explained that Government has a duty to the citizens in the passage of the RTI bill.

“The government is working on behalf of the people and are expected to act to favour the interest of the people. It is therefore important for what we are asking to be done.”

Going further, Mr Agboloso added that the passage will keep civil servants, especially, on their toes and make them conscious of their actions since every action they take can come under scrutiny.

“The passage of the bill will also enhance teaching, research and learning; and make people vigilante in society.”

Speaking on the same platform, the Vice-Chairman of the Coalition, Mina Mensah said government’s silence on the passage shows there is nothing hindering the passage of the bill hence the need for it to be passed immediately.

The coalition will be embarking on a walk dubbed #RTIRedFriday, and visit Parliament on some selected days to register their displeasure about the delay in the passage.
