Is he a prosecutor? – Some Ghanaians react to NDC’s appointment of Basintale to lead ORAL

The decision by the National Democratic Congress to announce Malik Basintale, the Deputy Communications Officer of the party, as the leader of their accountability initiative: ‘Operation Recover All Loot,’ has sparked numerous conversations among some Ghanaians on social media.

The announcement was made by Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, during the party’s final rally on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Madina.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, Basintale will be one of the leaders to spearhead the project, and the proceeds recovered from the loot of corrupt politicians will be used to fund infrastructural projects such as hospitals, schools, and roads under their administration.

As a result, Malik Basintale has topped the X trends on Friday, December 6, 2024.

Welcoming the party’s decision, some Ghanaians have said that Basintale is well-deserving of the mandate, considering his hard work in campaigning for the party and his efforts in mobilising the youth to rally support for the NDC.

Additionally, some believe that Basintale is capable of succeeding in the role, given his track record of challenging and exposing political opponents during media interviews.

However, some critics have criticised the NDC for already sharing positions even though it has not won the elections yet.

They have questioned the rationale behind ‘Operation Recover All Loot,’ given the NDC’s choice of Basintale as the leader, citing concerns that he may not have the capacity as a prosecutor to hold individuals accountable.

Others are also mocking the party’s decision, claiming that it reflects their lack of seriousness in the elections.
