INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION AFRICA (IHRC) EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY, APPEALS FOR ASSISTANCE TO MOROCCO’S EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

The Deputy Commissioner for the African Region of International Human Rights Commission Africa (IHRC) Amb. Dr. Abu Zein, the Director General- Dr Chief Nathaniel Nsarko, Deputy Director General and the entire leadership of IHRC Africa extends our heartfelt condolences to the entire people of Morocco in the wake of the devastating earthquake that has struck our Moroccan brothers and sisters. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragic event.
The earthquake struck 72km (45 miles) southwest of Marrakesh. The epicentre located in the Ighil area, a mountainous rural commune home to small farming villages in Al-Haouz province near the ski resort of Oukaimeden in the Atlas Mountains was badly hit and our hearts goes out to the affected families. This has indeed caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and has tragically resulted in loss of life and injuries. The International Human Rights Commission Africa stands in solidarity with Morocco during this difficult time and calls for a collective effort to aid the victims and support the affected communities.
In the face of such adversity, the IHRC Africa urges governments, humanitarian organizations, and individuals around the world to come forward and provide assistance to the earthquake victims in Morocco. Every contribution, whether in the form of relief supplies, financial support, or expertise, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected.
The IHRC Africa also calls upon the international community to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need promptly and efficiently. It is crucial that relief efforts are coordinated to maximize their impact and alleviate the suffering caused by this natural disaster.
We express our deepest sympathies to the Moroccan people, and we are committed to supporting the relief and recovery efforts in any way possible. Together, we can help Morocco rebuild and heal from the effects of this devastating earthquake.
