Inaki Williams stars in Athletic Bilbao’s narrow defeat to Barcelona

Ghanaian striker Inaki Williams was a standout performer for Athletic Bilbao despite their 2-1 defeat against Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday August 24, 2024.

The game, played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, saw Williams start and play for 78 minutes, while his brother, Spanish Ghanaian winger Nico Williams, lasted the full game.

Black Stars striker Inaki Williams demonstrated impressive stats, including a 69% pass accuracy, one chance created, 24 touches, 100% long ball accuracy, and 44% aerial duels won. He also contributed defensively with one clearance and two recoveries.

Barcelona took the lead in the 24th minute through Lamine Yamal, but Bilbao equalized via an Oihan Sancet penalty in the 42nd minute.

Barcelona secured the win in the 75th minute with a goal from Robert Lewandowski, assisted by Pedri.

Despite the loss, Williams’ performance was a bright spot for Athletic Bilbao, who will face Valencia in their next league game on August 28th.
