Immigration officer OgyamBay earns CMA 2026 nomination with a cappella gospel song

Cape Coast-based gospel a cappella minister and Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI) Philip Arthur, popularly known in music circles as OgyamBay, has earned a nomination at the 2026 Central Music Awards (CMA) with his inspirational song, OGUFOU BI.

The song has been nominated in the Gospel Song of the Year category at the Central Music Awards 2026, marking a significant milestone for the gospel minister and the a cappella music community.

OGUFOU BI, which literally translates to “A Certain Sower Went Out To Sow Seed,” draws its inspiration from Matthew Chapter 13 and the biblical Parable of the Sower.

Through the song, OgyamBay reflects on the different ways people receive and respond to the Word of God, using the message of the biblical parable to encourage listeners to examine the condition of their hearts.

A major highlight of the nomination is that OGUFOU BI is reportedly the only a cappella song among the nominees in the Gospel Song of the Year category at the 2026 awards.

The recognition represents a notable achievement for a cappella gospel music, which relies primarily on vocal harmony and does not depend on conventional musical instrumentation.

OgyamBay, whose professional name is DSI Philip Arthur, is a career officer of the Ghana Immigration Service. He has served the service for more than two decades and is currently stationed at the Accra International Airport.

He hails from Ekumfi Gyinankomah in Ghana’s Central Region and has combined his career in immigration with his passion for gospel music and ministry.

Academically, Philip Arthur holds a Master of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

In the music industry, he is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OgyamBay Records and leads DSI Philip Arthur & The Oracle Singers, a gospel music group dedicated to a cappella ministry.

OgyamBay has acknowledged Preacher Bro Dan Sakyi-Arthur Sr. of Esuekyir Church of Christ as the inspiration behind his musical compositions.

His works are produced by SkyBoo Musik and released under ℗ OGYAMBAY RECORDS.

Reacting to the nomination, OgyamBay expressed gratitude for the recognition and dedicated the achievement to people who continue to support a cappella gospel music.

“I am humbled that OGUFOU BI is the only a cappella song nominated. This nomination is for all a cappella lovers, for the Church of Christ, and for the Ghana Immigration Service. To God be the glory,” he said.

The nomination has added another dimension to OgyamBay’s dual career as an immigration officer and gospel minister, while placing a cappella music in the spotlight ahead of the 2026 Central Music Awards.
