Ignore GFA statement; Isaac Addo has been banned by FIFA – Vanderpuye tells Ghanaians

Former Minister for Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has urged Ghanaians to disregard a press statement released by the Ghana Football Association earlier today after the premiere of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ latest investigative documentary on corruption in Ghana football.

The former minister believes the statement signed by the General Secretary of the GFA, Isaac Addo cannot be taken into serious consideration as he has been banned by international football governing body FIFA for sexual misconduct in Equatorial Guinea.

“If somebody has been banned by FIFA, how can Ghana still hold that person as our General Secretary for GFA. The General Secretary of football federations are actually the administrators of the game in those countries,” the former minister said.

According to the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, Isaac Addo is still at post just because he does the bidding of the embattled GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi even though he has been banned by the governing body of association football, FIFA.

“Nyantakyi wants people who will always do his bidding at the FA. This boy has brought so much embarrassment to this country, he was involved in some sexual assault in Equatorial Guinea and FIFA took a very serious view of that and banned him,” he revealed.

Mr Vanderpuye insisted Ghanaians must “dismiss this statement with the content it deserves, we don’t need this statement because it means nothing to us”.

Before this, Nii Lante Vanderpuye also alleged Ghana bought its way to three FIFA World Cups; from 2006 to 2014.

After the Anas’ expose was made public, football fans have been left shocked at the confirmation of alleged rot within the sport.

Several high ranking members in the GFA, including its President Kwesi Nyantakyi, have been implicated in acts of corruption.
