Ghanaian socialite, Afia Schwarzenegger, has opened up about how the Managing Director of Despite Media Group, Fadda Dickson, and the CEO, Osei Kwame Despite, abandoned her during a court case related to a show on UTV.
According to her, she booked her own flight to Ghana to attend the United Showbiz programme on UTV. However, a comment she made resulted in a legal suit for the station.
She noted that Kwame Despite hired lawyers for all the other panelists on the show except her, which compelled her to get one and pay legal fees herself.
Schwarzenegger disclosed that a day before the case would be heard in court, Fadda Dickson called to warn her not to speak with him in public when they meet.
She noted that the act hurt her a lot, considering their relationship.
“There were three or four lawyers for UTV, and I had to get my own lawyer. A day before we went to court, I was in Amsterdam, and Fadda Dickson called to tell me that I shouldn’t greet him when I see him because he doesn’t want people to know that we were friends. Let me die if I am telling lies. Meanwhile, it was through you that I got into trouble” she said.
“The first day in court, McBrown asked why I did not greet them, but I couldn’t say anything. I used my own money to book a flight for the interview, but when the issue came, I was left alone. So, what does he say about me in public that he didn’t want anybody to know we were close? Kwame Despite hired a lawyer for all those on the programme except me,” she recounted in Twi during an Instagram live session.
She went ahead to advise people not to be too loyal to others because they would not be valued in critical moments.
“Loyalty in Ghana has no value; don’t be loyal to anyone because they treat you like a dog,” she added.
About the court case:
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, sued Afia Schwarzenegger for some sexual allegations made against him.
He later dragged Afia Schwarzenegger, Kwame A Plus, Nana Ama McBrown, and Mr. Logic to court after they ran commentaries on a case pending before the court during the United Showbiz TV programme on UTV.
Nana Ama McBrown, Kwame A Plus, and Mr. Logic were fined GH¢60,000 each (5,000 penalty units) or, in default, served a two-month jail sentence.
Afia Schwarzenegger, who was not in court, was, however, asked to spend 10 days in prison for contempt of court.
