How Efia Odo was chased and arrested by police
In a video clip from the ‘Rants and Bants’ podcast, Efia Odo recounted how, at just 17, a date quickly turned into a police chase after her companion ran a red light.
“I was on a date. I was, like, 17, mind you. On January 1. I go and meet this guy. We were going out, and then, whereas we were going, he crossed the red light. And then the police saw, and then the police started chasing him, chasing us,” she said.
Efia recalled urging her date to stop, only to receive a shocking reply.
“I was scared. I was very young at that time. I’m like, ‘Why can’t you park?’ He replied, ‘This car’s not my car. I stole this car’” she recalled.
Her date eventually abandoned the car, leaving Efia behind. The police apprehended her and later arrested the young man as well, taking them to the police station.
“So we got to the police station and they told me that this guy… they gave me his record, his breakdown. He was wanted for attempted murder, armed robbery, plenty things. Then they put me in a cell,” she narrated.
She recalled not wanting to call her mum for help, instead resorting to calling her uncle.
“When I got a phone, I called my uncle. I told him, ‘I’m in the cell; this is what happened. Please don’t call mommy. Please come and get me.’ He called my mom.
“My mom came and slapped the shit out of me in front of the police officers, she seriously beat me up,” Efia Odo recalled.
Despite the ordeal, Efia continued to visit the young man in jail, buying items to make his life ‘easier’ in jail.
“I still kept in communication with him, going to visit him in jail and everything, buying him socks… I will leave school to go and see him. Oh, my God. Like it was so bad. But the love thing has been in me since,” she said.
Reflecting on the incident, Efia humorously said that her commitment to love and loyalty has remained constant throughout her life, even in the most unexpected situations.
